Metodi didattici

The module consists of 40 hours of teaching, combining theoretical and applied lectures. Theoretical lectures introduce each method together with its statistical justification; applied lectures work through examples and step-by-step exercises on the topics that carry the greatest weight in the examination – confidence intervals, correlation and chi-square tests, and regression. Lecture notes, exercise sets with worked solutions, statistical tables and simulations of the examination paper are published on the e-learning page of the course; the reading list is managed on Leganto.

Verifica Apprendimento

Learning is assessed by a single written examination covering both modules of the integrated course Quantitative Methods for Management (ECO0134). The examination procedure, the composition of the paper and the assessment criteria are defined at the level of the integrated course and are reported in its syllabus. No separate examination is scheduled for this module.

Contenuti

The module introduces the statistical methods used to describe data and to draw inference in management, economics, marketing and finance, from the vocabulary of the discipline to the estimation and testing of a regression model. It is organised in five thematic areas: foundations – the aims and the history of statistics, measurement and uncertainty, and the mathematical tools needed for the course (8 h); descriptive statistics – graphical methods and numerical methods for univariate and multivariate variables (12 h); probability – fundamental concepts and the main distributions (8 h); statistical inference – estimation, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing (8 h); regression models (4 h). Theory is combined throughout with step-by-step exercises on real data. The detailed programme, with the hours assigned to each topic, is reported in the Extended programme section.
