The paper aims to introduce the issue of the italian journal "Cultura tedesca" devoted to the Austrian writer and author Thomas Bernhard. Focus of the paper, and of the issue, is the topic of "in the opposite direction", to intend as a Leitmotiv, as a keyword, of Thomas Bernhard's work and life.
