Cittadini europei in cammino: alcune riflessioni su cittadinanza europea e religione

Articolo
Data di Pubblicazione:
2024
Abstract:
European Citizens on the Route: Reflections on European Citizenship and Religion · eu citizenship includes specific rights, granted by eu law, but it is also made of values and identity elements. This paper takes into consideration the role of religion in defining citizenship belonging and values. The European Union can underline common values of eu citizens through cultural programs and the protection of cultural heritage, but its action in this field is still limited. This is also true with regard to Cultural and religious routes: the unesco and the Council of Europe highlighted the importance of these routes in building common values and European identity, while the European Union did not take many initiatives in this field. Moreover, it seems that the eu prefers to underline pluralism and dialogue, in spite of explicitly cite religions as elements of eu citizenship. Religious routes
can be an example of the presence of religion in the European protection of cultural heritage (including immaterial heritage), looking at the importance of this legal protection also for the European common values and for the building of a ‘substantial’ citizenship
