Descrizione
Jenny G. Vitillo ha ricevuto il dottorato in Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali nel 2005 presso l’Università di Torino, dove ha continuato a lavorare con contratti post-dottorato presso nei periodi 2005−2013 e 2016−2017. Nel 2013, in quanto coordinatrice di unità di ricerca di un progetto FIRB (Italian starting grant), ha svolto invece la sua attività di ricerca presso l’Università dell’Insubria. Dal 2017 al 2018, ha lavorato presso il Department of Chemistry dell’University of Minnesota svolgendo sia attività di ricerca al calcolatore che di tipo sperimentale. Dal 2018 lavora presso il Dipartimento di Scienza e Alta tecnologia dell’Università dell’Insubria, prima come Ricercatore in Chimica Fisica (RUTDB, 2018-2021) e attualmente come Professore Associato. I suoi interessi di ricerca sono focalizzati alla soluzione di problemi di rilevanza ambientale usando sia tecniche sperimentali (IR, UV, volumetria, gravimetria) che computazionali (QM, MM, calcoli multireference). Tali problemi spaziano dalla cattura e riconversione della CO2, alla conversione diretta del metano a metanolo, fino alla purificazione di acqua.

EXPERTISE AND KNOWLEDGE
Jenny G. Vitillo is an expert in energetic and environmentally relevant challenges, in particular hydrogen storage, light-harvesting, and carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage, and the catalytic conversion of alkane to alcohols. She has exploited almost all the characterization techniques that are relevant in Materials Science both on the computational (quantum mechanics – DFT and multireference wave function methods – and molecular mechanics) and experimental points of view, focusing on investigating materials for catalysis, energy (storage and delivery), and gas storage and separation.

The ICDC is devoted to computationally-guided discovery of a new class of energy-science-relevant catalytic materials and the underlying structure-function relationships that will guide further catalyst discovery. The catalysts determined in the ICDC are intended to be used for natural gas conversion from alkanes to alcohols.
