The course is aimed at introducing students to the main events of the European History from the XVth to the end of the XVIIIth century and at providing them with methodological instruments. The course will examine the main political, economic, social, religious and cultural developments that occurred in Europe in the Early modern period. These include, in particular, te development of mobility and travel in the modern age.

Teaching Methods
The course is held in the Spring semester and it consists of 56 hours of lectures.
Assessment Methods
The final exam will be oral and will consist of four questions: two questions concerning part 1; two questions concerning part 2 (one question on monographic part and one on the book of your choice). Students must demonstrate that they have acquired the course content and are able to connect events and phenomena in coherent frameworks using clear and appropriate language.
Contents
The course addresses issues of historical methodology, such as sources, periodization, historical interpretation, and it investigates the core themes of modern European history (part 1). Special attention will be given to the topic of travel and mobility in Europe in early modern age with a focus on the Grand Tour (part 2).
