Syllabus

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
- understand the main serious systemic diseases and their impact on oral health and the professional hygiene approach;
- apply professional oral hygiene protocols appropriate for patients with systemic compromise, considering pharmacotherapy, physical limitations, and general clinical conditions;
- assess contraindications and risks associated with surgery, safely manage clinical sessions, and collaborate with the medical team in multidisciplinary patient management;
- educate patients and caregivers on the importance of oral health in preventing systemic complications, providing home hygiene tools tailored to their specific needs.

Teaching Methods

The course includes 20 hours of lectures supported by slide presentations, which will be made available to students at the end of each lesson. The lessons will be interactive, with opportunities for discussion and discussion aimed at encouraging active student participation and fostering critical learning of the theoretical and practical content.

Assessment Methods

Learning assessment takes place through a final oral exam.

Contents

Operational oral hygiene protocols will be covered in:
- patients taking bisphosphonates;
- patient with diabetes;
- patient with cardiovascular pathologies
- the pregnant woman;
- chemo and radio treated oncological patient;
- transplanted patient or patient awaiting transplant;
- patient suffering from infectious diseases: AIDS/HIV; HCV, HBV AND HPV
- epileptic patient;
- patient with blood dyscrasias.
- patient with disorders induced by substance abuse (alcohol and drugs)
- patients with eating disorders (anorexic, bulimic, celiac)
