Teaching Methods
The educational objectives of the course will be achieved through lectures for a total of 36 hours, in which the basic topics of General Pathology and Immunopathology will be addressed, giving emphasis to how the figure of the technician fits into the different topics that will be covered . the lessons will be alternated with quiz and presentations into small groups to revise the topics. Attendance of the lessons is mandatory.
Assessment Methods
A final exam covering all topics included in the program is required to assess achievement of the objectives of the General Pathology Course. The exam consists of a written test comprising 40 multiple-choice questions, with a score of 0.825 for each correct answer and 0 points for each incorrect or missing answer. The exam questions assess the student's knowledge and understanding of physiological mechanisms, the ability to apply knowledge and understanding, and the student's ability to learn the topics covered. The exam is passed with a score of 18/33 or higher.
Contents
Students will learn the basic notions of cellular and molecular pathology, and the pathologic processes at the basis of multicellular degeneration, inflammation and tumor development. The course will focus also on the innate and adaptive immunity. Special emphasis will be given to acute and chronic inflammation and to related diseases, to the pathogenesis of AIDS and to the neoplastic process. Given the importance of anticancer immunotherapy in the last decade, its applications in the preventive and therapeutic fields in the neoplastic field will be treated
