Syllabus

Course Objectives

The Elements of Law course is aimed at providing an understanding of the general categories governing public and private law.
The educational objective of this course is to provide students with an introductory knowledge of public and private law, which is central to the understanding of advanced courses in the degree program. Moreover, students will familiarise with cultural and civic matters, as well as with key issues related to their future professional role.

Teaching Methods

Lectures with active student participation and e-learning exercises.

Assessment Methods

The examination consists of a written test (30 closed-ended multiple choice questions, to be completed in 30 minutes). The grade will be in thirtieths. Answers will be marked as follows: correct answer, +1/30; omitted answer, 0; incorrect answer, -0.25/30.

Contents

The course, after an introductory part, will discuss the system of government, the principle of equality, the sources of law, the general rules of administrative procedures, erga omnes and inter partes rights, torts, and liability. Through the study of these topics, students are expected to acquire legal skills needed to better manage and organise their professional role.
