The course aims at providing students with the with a pre-intermediate knowledge of the morpho-syntactic and lexical structures of the English language and to improve their reading and listening comprehension skills. Students will also learn how to analyse and translate short texts concerning the specific sector of biotechnologies.

Teaching Methods
Frontal and formal interactive teaching (16 hours). Reading/listening and comprehension, translation and analysis of texts. Grammar and Use of English exercises, true/false questions, gap filling, multiple choice questions, open questions.
Assessment Methods
Written test online: reading comprehension tasks and Grammar and Use of English exercises.
Contents
Pre-intermediate level English grammar, main verbal and lexical forms in medical-scientific English; main linguistic functions and specific linguistic functions of scientific communication. Reading and listening strategies to grasp both the general meaning of texts and specific and detailed information.
