The course aims to provide wide-ranging information on aspects of Architecture, Art and Archaeology relating to the medieval period in the Insubria area. The aim of the course is not, however, to train experts in Art History and Medieval archaeology, but rather to provide the tools for the informed evaluation of individual monumental and archaeological contexts relating to the Western Middle Ages as an example, also applicable to other contexts, for the development of informed tourist routes.
Course Prerequisites
Basic notions of Western History, particularly in the medieval period. Where this information is not in the possession of the students enrolled in the course, the lecturer, after consulting the students present in class, may provide a brief introduction on these aspects.
Teaching Methods
Classroom lectures with image projection, individual exercises, field visits. Students are invited to give a short presentation on a local context that relates to the topics covered in the course. This presentation, to be given in class in front of the other students, will be taken into account in the final assessment.
Assessment Methods
At the end of the course there will be an assessment test in the form of an oral examination, lasting a minimum of twenty minutes, aimed at verifying the achievement of the training objectives through: 1. historical-monumental-archaeological framework of the Insubria territory; 2. descriptive capacity of the monumental and archaeological contexts examined during the lessons; 3. ability to relate the monumental/archaeological contexts examined in the course of the lectures to other peculiarities of the territory susceptible to tourist enhancement; 4. Possession of a specific terminology base; 6. Synthesis of the individual exercise presented in the course of the lectures. In particular, the following weight will be given to verifying the aforementioned achievement of the training objectives: 1. 20%; 2. 20%; 3. 30%; 4 10%; 5. 20%.
