Course Objectives

The course aims to develop a critical and conscious awareness of the interconnections between tourism, sustainability, and territorial transformations through an interdisciplinary and participatory approach. Specifically, the course seeks to: 1. Promote interdisciplinary thinking around the connections between territory, development, environment, and active citizenship; 2. Encourage territorial analysis that considers environmental sustainability, spatial justice, and wellbeing; 3. Stimulate critical reflection on tourism in industrialised and deindustrialised contexts, with attention to social and environmental impacts; 4. Foster transversal skills related to geography as an educational tool for social cohesion and inclusion.

Course Prerequisites

No prior knowledge is required. However, a sensitivity to environmental issues and a willingness to engage in collaborative and participatory learning are recommended.

Teaching Methods

The course adopts active and student-centred methodologies: • Flipped classroom, to support autonomy and collaborative learning; • Participatory walking, to foster direct observation and spatial awareness; • Digital Cooperative Learning, to develop digital and teamwork skills; • Debate, to enhance critical thinking and informed discussion.

Assessment Methods

• For attending students: continuous assessment through participation in classroom workshops. Each workshop will be graded, and the final mark will result from the sum of all partial evaluations. • For non-attending students: oral examination aimed at evaluating understanding, critical analysis, and application of the acquired knowledge. Assessment criteria: • Mastery of theoretical concepts and terminology; • Ability to synthesise and critically rework content; • Argumentative coherence and interconnection of topics; • Quality of workshop participation (for attending students).
