Summer school on “Philosophy of Economics”, Lake Como School of Advanced Studies (LCSAS), 7–12/6, 2026

In 2019, 2022 and 2024, professors Francesco Guala, Ivan Moscati, and Raffaello Seri organized a series of summer school on in collaboration with the International Network for Economic Method (INEM), which is the leading international scientific society in the field of the methodology and philosophy of economics (https://econmethod.org/). All the schools were very successful (see the Twitter coverage at https://twitter.com/ecoInsubria). We received many applications (on average, about 60 for 23 available spots), and a significant number of applicants were affiliated to leading international universities, such as Harvard University, the University of Cambridge and the London School of Economics. The high number of strong applications gave us the possibility to choose brilliant students for the schools, and in fact the quality of the papers they presented was, on average, extremely high. Also the lectures offered by the faculty, which was constituted by internationally renowned speakers affiliated to leading European universities, such as LSE, Cambridge, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm, were of high quality and very much appreciated by the students. INEM is willing to sponsor our summer school at Villa del Grumello every odd year. We have expanded our scientific committee and the range of topics covered. Below you will find a proposal for the Fourth Lake Como Summer School in the Philosophy of Economics, to be held in June 2026. Abstract Our first two schools focused on the analysis of economic behaviour: how it could be modelled, measured and what sort of policies could that analysis yield. In the third school, we had a cluster of presentations covering this broad topic, plus a series of lectures on other areas of economics that are now prompting philosophical debates. Namely, the changing identity of economics after the empirical turn, model transfer in between economic sub-fields and how economics is modelling the social structure of science. We intend to replicate this format in the fourth edition.
