abstract:
The result of a long research work, the volume constitutes the widest anthology existing today on Primitivism. It collects sixty texts written by artists such as Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso, Klee, Kandinskij, de Chirico, Brâncuși, Moore, Pollock, Ernst, Giacometti, Miró and Beuys, which for the most part appear for the first time in a language different from that with which were written. Each text has been translated from the original and commented with philological emphasis, with the aim of presenting in depth the contexts and values at stake, as well as to provide a solid basis for reflection for further developments. The wide introduction and the critical apparatus are aimed at the reconstruction the cultural atmosphere in which one of the basic phenomena of modern art was born and matured, and at the interpretation of its multiple aspects.
