Abstract:
My research project is dedicated to the work of several Italian female artists active in Rome in the 1960s. Part of the generation born between the 1920s and the 1930s, they shared the need to coin their own personal and subjective notion of being a woman, despite the fact they had been forced between the influence of the Fascist feminine culture
in which they grew up and the feminist movements that characterized 1968. My research questions focus on potential connections between art made by women and the rise of feminist movements in Italy in the 1960s. The research investigates how hard it was to be a female artist in the Sixties and how many stereotypes an Italian woman artist had to deal with at that time (and still do today).
