La valorizzazione dello sviluppo sostenibile nella politica di concorrenza dell'Unione europea

The present paper analyses the relationship between sustainable development and EU competition law. Integrating environmental and social objectives in EU policies, it is possible to introduce appraisals relating to sustainability in the assessment of entrepre-neurial behaviours on the market. In the current regulatory framework, this makes it possible to shape the interpretation of key concepts of competition law, such as relevant market, consumer, cartel, abuse of dominant position, in the direction of encouraging sustainable development. The contribution aims to provide these interpretations, after a brief overview of current practice and case law in the European Union, accompanied by some examples taken from the decisions of the European Commission or from certain Na-tional Competition Authorities, which can serve as first best practices in this area.
