abstract:
Proverbs represent complex linguistic entities characterized by a significant degree of intertextuality (De Beaugrande, Dressler, 1981). With regards to the teaching of the Italian language, proverbs are often treated as purely idiomatic forms. Based on these premises, it seemed appropriate to question the presence of proverbs within the syllabuses of Italian language teaching, through an exploratory survey conducted with 405 teachers during the first half of 2019.
The analysis of the documents and the questionnaire data made it possible to identify the role of the proverb in the Italian language teaching. One of the most important results concerns the difference between the Italian as L1 and L2 teaching. According to the L2 teachers, the attention given to proverbs seems to be significant.
