I Morgari: architettura illusionistica e figurazione tra Piemonte, Lombardia e Cantone Ticino dalla seconda metà del XIX ai primi decenni del XX secolo

Chapter
Publication Date:
2024
abstract:
Originally from Turin, the Morgari family was active for four generations in the field of easel painting, theatre set design and, above all, in the realisation of vast decorative cycles on walls between the 1920s and the first half of the 20th century. The contribution proposes an initial examination of the illusionistic
architectural interventions - in eclectic neo-Baroque and neo-Rococo style - carried out by Piedmontese artists and their associates and collaborators. After an initial phase, which lasted until the 1880s and centred on the figures of Paolo Emilio and Rodolfo, in which the main commissioning area was Savoy Piedmont, with the last two generations of Luigi and his son Carlo the geography of their work expanded to western Lombardy and the Swiss Sottoceneri (the southern area of Canton Ticino), working intensively until the 1930s.
