Research Activity
Main research interests of Ettore Fois are the development and applications of numerical simulations methods to complex chemical systems, mainly in the condensed phases. E.F. contributed to the development of the CPMD suite of computer code (www.cpmd.org), a first-principles molecular dynamics approach within the density functional theory. After his PhD studies, focused on the simulations of apolar molecules in water, E.F. afforded the studies of metal-molten salts solutions adopting a mixed classical-quantum approach for the time evolution of the system. Then E.F. afforded the problem of the self-interaction corrections within the density functional theory as applied to first-principles molecular dynamics methods. The study via first principles approach of Zeolites has been a constant motif in his research activity. E.F. has given contributions to this field, pioneering the modeling of supramolecular organization in host-guest systems, of high-pressure effects on zeolites, the channel entrance functionalization and organic dyes self-assembly in zeolitic pores. The study of chemical events at solid surfaces (both magnetic and not magnetic) represents an important facet of his activity. Last but not least, E.F. is actively involved in the simulations at finite temperature of the dynamics of complex supramolecular systems in liquid phases. Most of his research activities have been done in collaboration with (national and international ) leading experimental groups.
Pubblications
E.F. has published more than 200 papers and presented his research results in many national and international meetings. E.F. acts as reviewer for many international journals of chemistry and physical chemistry.
