Alongside her academic career, she serves as Head Biologist at the Microbiology and Virology Laboratory of the ASST dei Sette Laghi (Varese General Hospital). She graduated and specialised in Microbiology and Virology at the University of Pavia, and obtained a Level II Master’s degree in Molecular Virology at La Sapienza University of Rome. She works in the Department of Medicine and Technological Innovation at the University of Insubria. She lectures on degree courses including Medicine and Surgery, Obstetrics, Dental Hygiene, Nursing Sciences, perfusion technicians and radiology technicians. Her scientific work focuses on clinical virology, with particular attention to the study of respiratory viruses, cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and other human pathogens. She has numerous publications in international journals regarding the monitoring of the molecular evolution of influenza viruses (such as A/H3N2) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV); Study of immunity, variants of concern and the genetic characterisation of circulating viruses; Research into the mechanisms of reactivation of latent viruses such as cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). She carries out clinical, teaching and research work in the field of microbiology, with a particular focus on virology, and is actively involved in multicentre and international clinical and translational research programmes.
