Clinical Activity

Research Activity
Member of the Northern Italian Leukaemia Group (NILG) and principal investigator in clinical trials for the treatment of acute leukaemias, with results published in leading international haematology journals.
Local coordinator for the GIMEMA group, participating in protocols for acute promyelocytic leukaemia, contributing to the introduction of chemotherapy-free treatment approaches.
Scientific coordinator of the agreement between the School of Specialisation in Medical Oncology and IOSI (Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland), with publications on lymphoma cytogenetics.
Scientific coordinator of the AIL (Italian Leukaemia Association) section of Varese, supporting research on molecular biology in chronic myeloid leukaemia, minimal residual disease, and treatment discontinuation of TKI therapy in molecular remission.
Participant in the international study group on atypical chronic myeloid leukaemia (coordinator: Prof. C. Gambacorti), contributing to the identification of a novel mutation later included in the WHO classification of haematological diseases.
Promoter of studies on the influence of vitamin D on immune status in patients with colorectal cancer and chronic myeloid leukaemia. Research on the impact of BMI on response to immunotherapy in colorectal cancer patients.
Author of meta-analyses in collaboration with Prof. A. Squizzato (University of Insubria), particularly defining criteria for safe discontinuation of therapy in chronic myeloid leukaemia; work later included in European and North American guidelines.
In vitro study on the effects of apixaban on five different tumour cell lines.
Promoter of studies defining baseline metabolic tumour volume in lymphoma patients and its influence on first-line therapy response.
Research on prevention of cardiotoxicity in oncological patients and participation in programmes on early cardiac damage in diabetic and hypertensive patients.
Investigator in the REPOSI project on multimorbid elderly patients.
Ongoing studies include: appropriate use of PET in internal medicine patients; role of EBUS in mediastinal lymphadenopathy diagnosis; use of dabrafenib in rare diseases with BRAF V600-positive mutations; and the role of vitamin D in modulating immunotherapy response in lung cancer patients.
