GALLO IGNAZIO

Ignazio Gallo received his degree in Computer Science from the University of Milan, Italy, in 1998. From 1998 to 2002, he conducted research at the Italian National Research Council (CNR) in Milan, within the Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing Laboratory, focusing on the design and development of neural models for the classification and recognition of remote sensing images, as well as decision-support systems for engineering and environmental applications.

From 2002 to 2003, he worked with the Department of Computer Science and Communication at the University of Insubria, where he developed distributed simulation systems and investigated stereoscopic 3D reconstruction from scanning electron microscope images, along with feature selection and classification methods for hyperspectral data.

Since 2004, he has been a researcher at the University of Insubria, carrying out research in Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Neural Computing, Information Extraction, and Deep Learning. He is responsible for all aspects of the courses Mobile Device Programming, Data Mining, Software Engineering Laboratory, and Programming Languages Laboratory. His current research interests focus on the design and application of deep learning models for object detection and recognition in digital images, as well as multimodal CNN-based approaches for the joint exploitation of heterogeneous data sources.

He is the head of the Applied Recognition Technology Laboratory (ArTe-Lab), which promotes technology transfer between academia and industry, and he is the founder and CEO of DermIA, a spin-off company of the University of Insubria.
