GUZZETTI MARTINA AMALIA

Martina Amalia Guzzetti is an academic lecturer and researcher specializing in English Language, Translation, and Linguistics. Her academic career is characterized by a strong interdisciplinary approach situated at the intersection of the history of the English language, historical lexicography, gender studies, and medical and feminist discourse analysis. In 2023, she earned her Ph.D. in Linguistic, Literary, and Intercultural Studies from the University of Milan, defending a doctoral thesis focused on language and gender discourse within British suffrage periodicals. On the research front, she has actively collaborated on projects of significant national interest. Specifically, she served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Insubria as part of a national PRIN project dedicated to the discourses and contexts of wellbeing in the history of the English language, focusing her investigations on the perception of reproductive health in 18th- and 19th-century medical manuals. Furthermore, she collaborated with the University of Milan on the creation and digitization of the MetaLing Corpus, a project aimed at mapping the metalanguage of English linguistics between the 16th and 18th centuries. Her university-level teaching experience is continuous and distributed across several institutions in Lombardy. At the University of Milan, she has taught Master's-level courses in English Linguistics and English Language and Translation, alongside Bachelor's-level modules dedicated to Linguistic Mediation, as well as conducting numerous language tutoring and assistance activities. Her scientific production includes the monograph "Feminist Language and Discourse in the British Suffrage Press: Words as Deeds", published in 2025 by Routledge. Her articles and book chapters have appeared in top-tier (Class A) scientific journals and volumes published by prestigious international houses such as John Benjamins and Brill/De Gruyter, addressing crucial topics such as the evolution of linguistic taboos related to female anatomy in the Oxford English Dictionary, the popularization of midwifery, and domestic medical knowledge. Her profile has a strong international projection, as demonstrated by her numerous presentations as a speaker at major field conferences, including the renowned International Conference on English Historical Linguistics (ICEHL), and invited seminar sessions abroad, such as the one held at the Universitat de Lleida in Spain. This constant dialogue with the global scientific community is supported by international grants, including one from the Dictionary Society of North America, and affiliations with elite networks such as the Oxford English Dictionary Researchers Advisory Group and the Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies at Durham University.
