Overview

CV - Serena Zaccara Associate Professor of Ecology at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences (DISTA) of the University of Insubria. Head of the research group and the molecular ecology laboratory at DISTA. Email: Serena.zaccara@uninsubria.it Scientific Interests and Research Lines For two decades, scientific interest has focused on understanding the ecological and evolutionary structures of communities within aquatic ecosystems (primarily rivers), in order to understand the evolutionary and ecological relationships within them. Of primary interest is the study of biodiversity, ecological functions, and conservation strategies of freshwater habitats. The application of molecular ecology tools has allowed us to analyze both current population dynamics and reflect the historical and evolutionary trajectory of species. The investigations, useful for inferring the evolutionary path of biodiversity across the country, have primarily focused on fish fauna (such as trout, barbel, chub, minnow, and sturgeon), leading to the publication of several scientific papers aimed at reflecting various implications such as: i) the close relationship between fish communities and the Italian hydrographic network, ii) tracing biological invasion and ecological shifts due to a new community structure, iii) the development of molecular tools aimed at conservation strategies (repopulation plans, ESU). she has several active national and international collaborations on the evolutionary dynamics and conservation of endangered species. He serves as a reviewer for numerous international scientific journals. she is the principal investigator for research projects: 2024_2025 Caddisflies present in Italy _ TRIC-IT, In relation to participation in the PNRR Cascade Call for Proposals National Biodiversity Future Center – (NBFC), Spoke 3 2025 _ SURVEY ON THE STATUS OF THE LAKE GARDA FISH COMMUNITY FOR THE PURPOSES OF SUSTAINABLE FISHING MANAGEMENT, responsible for the agreement between entities such as the Lombardy Region, the Veneto Region, and the Autonomous Province of Trento
