Overview

Francesco Di Iorio is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Insubria-Como Campus, where he was appointed through the Italian government’s Rientro dei Cervelli program (a “brain gain” initiative aimed at attracting academics working abroad back to Italy). He is also an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Nankai University in China. His research interests focus primarily on the methodology and philosophy of the social sciences. After graduating from LUISS Guido Carli in Rome, he earned first a master’s degree and then a PhD in Philosophy in France, at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and the Centre de recherche en épistémologie appliquée (CRÉA) of the École Polytechnique. He subsequently held postdoctoral research positions at Duke University in the United States and at the Sorbonne in Paris, where he also benefited from the status of FMSH Fernand Braudel Fellow. He has held teaching appointments at ESCP Europe Business School Paris (France) and at LUISS Guido Carli (Italy). From 2015 to 2025 he lived in China, where he served as Associate Professor, first at Southeast University in Nanjing and later at Nankai University in Tianjin. Since 2018, he has been a member of the editorial board of the journal Philosophy of the Social Sciences. He is also a co-founder and member of the steering committee of the Asian Network for the Philosophy of the Social Sciences (ANPOSS) and a Fellow of the Center for Philosophy of Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
