LEPORE PAOLO GIOVANNI

Graduated cum laude in Law from Pavia (1992; thesis in Exegesis of Roman Law Sources, advisor Prof. F. Bona), he earned his PhD in 1997. His career at the University of Insubria began as Assistant Professor (Ricercatore) in 1999; since 2018/19, he has been Associate Professor of Roman Law and Foundations of European Law (Field 12/GIUR-15) at DiDEC, where he holds the Chair of Institutions of Roman Law (Como/Varese). He is also an Attorney (Avvocato) on the Pavia Bar Special Roster.
At Insubria, his roles included: Academic Senate member (2002-2005); Law Degree Coordinator (Varese) and Orientation/Tutoring Delegate (2006-2015); Liaison for Disabled Students and student records (2006–2016); Degree Directors Committee member (2015–2023); and Teaching Quality Commission member (AiQUA, 2015–2025). He is currently on DiDEC’s Research Quality Commission (AiQUAR).
He serves on the PhD Boards in "History and Doctrine of Institutions" (2003–2013) and "Law and Human Sciences" (2003-2004 and since 2017).
He is on the Scientific Board of the Int. Research Center for Local Histories and Cultural Diversities and the Editorial Board of European Legal Roots (ELR). He is a member of AIDR, the Italian Society for Legal History, the "G. Cardano" Institute, the Center for Science and Symbolism of Cultural Heritage, DirMIS, and POLAMB. He also sits on the Scientific Committee of the Le vie del diritto book series (Aracne).
Main research areas: legislative relations between Eastern and Western Empires; pollicitatio to a res publica; and the role of Roman law in modern legal education.
