COEN PORISINI ALBERTO

He graduated in Electronic Engineering and obtained a PhD in Electronic, Information, and Systems Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano.
From May 1992 to September 1993, he carried out his research activity at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he worked on formalisms for the specification of real-time systems.
From October 1993 to October 1998, he was a researcher at the Department of Electronics and Information of the Politecnico di Milano. During this period, he continued his research on specification languages for real-time systems and initiated research on software integration technologies based on CORBA.
From November 1998 to September 2001, he was an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Lecce, where he taught Software Engineering and Information Systems.
Since October 2001, he has been a Full Professor at the University of Insubria (Varese).
During his academic career, he has held numerous academic positions. The most significant are listed below:
Rector of the University of Insubria (2012–2018)
Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences of the University of Insubria (2006–2011)
Founder and Director of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences (2011–2012) and (2024–present)
Chair of the Degree Program in Computer Science (2003–2006)
He is currently responsible for the course Software Engineering Fundamentals (taught in English) in the Master’s Degree Program in Computer Science, and for the course Concurrent and Distributed Programming in the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Computer Science (Como) at the University of Insubria.
In the past, he has taught university courses in Software Design, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Distributed Systems, and Fundamentals of Computer Science.
He is a member of the Board of Professors of the PhD Program in Computer Science and Computational Mathematics at the University of Insubria.
His research activity has been carried out in the fields of Software Engineering and Cybersecurity and has addressed various aspects, including:
Software specialization using (semi-)automatic techniques
Symbolic execution
Languages and tools for the specification of real-time systems
Design methodologies for real-time systems
Middleware architectures for real-time systems
Modeling of security and privacy requirements
Privacy-aware communication protocols and models for wireless sensor networks
Internet of Things
He has participated in numerous national and international projects and has been the coordinator of two ESPRIT IV projects (OpenDREAMS-II, aimed at developing a platform for supervision and control systems, and ASIA, aimed at developing a generic environment for simulator integration). He has also been the local coordinator of an FIRB 2001 project on topics related to simulator integration.
He serves as a reviewer for articles submitted to international conferences such as ICSE and ESEC, and for international journals including IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodologies, ACM Computing Surveys, IEEE Computer, The Computer Journal, Acta Informatica, Journal of Systems and Software, and Journal of Systems Architecture.
He is (and has been) a member of the program committees of numerous international conferences.
He has published more than 110 scientific papers at the international level.
