COLOMBO PIETRO

Pietro Colombo is an Associate Professor of Computer Science (SSD INFO-01/A) at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences, University of Insubria, Italy. He received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science (cum laude) from the University of Insubria, and earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2009 from the same institution. He also holds a second-level Master’s degree in Information Technologies, awarded by Politecnico di Milano (CEFREL).
Throughout his academic career, he has held several research positions, including research fellowships, and fixed-term researcher appointments (RTD-A and RTD-B). He has also gained international research experience as a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Concordia University in Montréal, Canada. He obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Associate Professor both in Computer Science and in Information Processing Systems.
His research activity focuses on data security and privacy, with particular emphasis on access control models and enforcement mechanisms for NoSQL databases, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems, and distributed data management infrastructures. He is a member of the StrictSocialLab at the University of Insubria and has participated in several national and international research projects, including projects funded by the European Union (H2020), the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, and other national research programs.
Dr. Colombo is the author of numerous scientific publications in leading international journals and conference proceedings in the areas of cybersecurity, databases, and distributed systems, and is co-author of 2 US patents. He is actively involved in service to the scientific community as a member of program committees of major international conferences and as a reviewer for international journals. His teaching activity includes undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses.
