In a perspective of collaboration between universities, civil society, public institutions and cultural associations, the "Fidr - Forum Internazionale Democrazia & Religioni", which brings together twelve Italian universities, intends to reflect on the role currently assumed by religions in European liberal democracies and to address, from an interdisciplinary perspective, the problems of coexistence in societies with a high degree of ethnic-religious pluralism.
The conviction that the secular state does not mean indifference to the religious phenomenon requires us to reflect on the complex dynamic between secular and religious humanism, which exists in different forms on various continents.
The aim of the Inter-University Centre, therefore, is to study the dynamics that run through pluralist societies and to seek the prerequisites for a shared ethos capable of ensuring sufficient social cohesion.
The various projects that will be developed within the FIDR will reflect on a series of issues such as: the new boundaries of secularism; shared values in a multicultural society; the problems of loyalty between the state and religious-cultural realities; the economic costs of diversity; the foundations for social peace.
