Laura Rampazzi, Assistant professor in Analytical Chemistry for Cultural Heritage, Dipartimento di Scienze Umane e dell’Innovazione per il Territorio DiSUIT, Università degli Studi dell’Insubria LR graduated in industrial chemistry in 1996 and received a PhD in Chemical Sciences in 2000 at the University of Milan, working on the analytical characterization of organic compounds used in the past as painting binders and as conservation treatments of stone surfaces. Since 2001, LR is full-time Researcher at Università degli Studi dell’Insubria and lecturer of the course Analytical Chemistry for Cultural Heritage. From 2016 to 2019 LR was Director of Centre for cultural heritage studies (Università degli Studi dell’Insubria) and has been a research associate to the Institute of Heritage Sciences (National Research Council) since 2009. LR’s research activity is mainly focused on the development and optimization of analytical procedures for: - the chemical and mineralogical characterization of stone materials (natural stones, mortars, stuccoes), archaeological remains (bones, charred bread, wall paintings, settlements) and easel paintings; - the chemical monitoring of bio-treatments on stone surfaces ex ante and post bio-applications and the evaluation of the system effectiveness; - the study of surface alterations due to effects of the environment and recent anthropogenic micropollutants. In the last years she has carried out non-destructive analytical campaigns using portable instruments (reflectance infrared spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy) for in situ characterisation of materials in mortars, mosaics, wall and easel paintings. Her skills range from infrared spectroscopy to optical and electronic microscopy, from x-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric techniques, ion chromatography to optical and scanning electron microscopy, equipped with microprobe. Laura Rampazzi joined national and international projects under competitive calls, also as coordinator (2004-2006 European Community Cross-border co-operation III A Program, “The art of stucco in the Magistri Comacini Park - Valorisation, conservation and promotion”, project coordinator; 2005-2007 Italian Research Grants for Project of Relevant Interest, “Knowlegde of historical building techniques: protocols and innovative tools for diffusion and applicability to preservation process”; 2007-2009 Italian Research Grants for Project of Relevant Interest, “Study, definition and creation, using advanced biotechnology, of innovative, ready-to-use, microbiological systems for biological cleaning and biological restoration of stone-work in historic buildings and Cultural Heritage sites (SystemBioteCH)”, Research Unit coordinator; 2008-2009 British-Italian Partnership Programme for Young Researchers, ‘Microorganisms that Actively Damage Artistic and Historic Stoneworks’, Research Unit coordinator; 2010-2014 European Community Cross-border co-operation Italy-Switzerland 2007-2013, “The art of stucco in the Magistri Comacini Park-Enhancement, conservation and promotion’”, project coordinator; 2015 European Community- Lombardy Region grant for Research projects on the enhancement of Lombardy Cultural Heritage, “The palette of Francesco Hayez”, project coordinator). LR has coauthored 54 articles in scientific peer reviewed journals. She has an H index of 14, with a total of 757 citations (SCOPUS). In January 2022 LR has achieved the National Scientific qualification as associate in the Italian higher education system, in the call 2021/2023 (Ministerial Decree n. 553/2021 and 589/2021) for the disciplinary field of 03/A1 - Analytical chemistry.
