Teaching Methods
Teaching activities include lectures supported by multimedia materials, discussion of clinical cases and practical care scenarios, and guided classroom discussions. Teaching methods aim to encourage active participation and promote the ability to connect theoretical knowledge with clinical nursing practice, fostering critical reflection on the nurse’s role in end-of-life care.
Assessment Methods
Student learning is assessed through a written and oral examination according to degree program regulations. Assessment verifies theoretical knowledge, understanding of palliative care principles, and the ability to apply nursing competencies in symptom management and patient and family support during advanced stages of disease.
Contents
The course covers principles and organization of palliative care services and relevant legislation. Topics include assessment and management of refractary symptoms in advanced disease, pain therapy, palliative sedation, nursing roles in end-of-life care, ethical and communication issues, multidisciplinary teamwork, continuity of care between hospital and community services, and an introduction to pediatric palliative care and family support.
