Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to provide in-depth knowledge of the surgical anatomy of the rhino-cervico-facial region, with particular focus on the larynx, oro-hypopharynx and oral cavity, salivary glands, cervical masses, ear, and thyroid. Integrated into the Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics degree programme, the course enables students to understand the anatomical and clinical foundations necessary for diagnosis, treatment, and interdisciplinary collaboration in the management of head and neck disorders.

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and general pathology acquired in previous courses is required. No formal prerequisites are set.

Teaching Methods

Lectures supported by multimedia presentations, radiological images, and surgical videos. Discussion of illustrative clinical cases to develop the ability to apply theoretical knowledge. Use of materials from scientific literature and updated clinical guidelines. Optional seminars with specialists on selected surgical

Assessment Methods

The final exam is oral and covers all topics presented during the course. Assessment criteria: Completeness and accuracy of knowledge acquired Ability to present content logically and clearly Correct use of specialist terminology Ability to integrate theoretical knowledge into clinical contexts The final grade is expressed out of thirty.

Surgical anatomy of the larynx Surgical anatomy of the oro-hypopharynx and oral cavity Anatomy and pathology of the salivary glands Cervical masses: relevant anatomy and main clinical presentations Anatomy of the ear and overview of the main causes of hearing loss Surgical anatomy of the thyroid and related disorders

Course Language

Italian. Supplementary teaching materials and reference articles may be provided in English.
