Course Objectives

The professionalizing internship represents the core of professional preparation and is intended as an "experience space" with educational purposes, essential for translating the theoretical knowledge acquired into professional behaviors.
The professionalizing training activity is therefore a fundamental cornerstone in building the professional profile of the Obstetrics student, aiming to develop:

Professional competencies

Diagnostic reasoning

Critical thinking

Identity and belonging to the profession

Autonomy in providing care and professional skills

At the end of the third-year professionalizing internship, the student must have achieved the educational standards established by Directive 2005/36/EC in order to access the state exam for professional practice.

Students will always perform the professionalizing activities under the guidance and supervision of an internship assistant.

Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the third-year professionalizing internship, the student will be able to:

Provide assistance to women in the various stages of physiological labor, demonstrating progressive autonomy.

Assist in eutocic deliveries, demonstrating progressive autonomy and being able to recognize clinical situations that require medical intervention.

Provide care in all situations deviating from physiology in collaboration with the physician.

Assist in obstetric and gynecological surgical procedures.

Provide care to the healthy newborn.

Describe and apply care plans related to gynecological and gynecological oncology pathologies, and to the pathological newborn.

Describe and apply pre- and post-operative care plans for obstetric/gynecological surgeries.

Perform screening tests for the prevention of female genital cancers.

Provide counseling in obstetrics and gynecology, demonstrating progressive autonomy in active listening, asking questions, and providing information.

Know and apply the main emergency and urgent procedures in obstetrics, gynecology, and neonatology.

Course Prerequisites

To access the internship, the student must attend the Professionalizing Laboratories (LP) and the Professionalizing and In-Depth Activities (APA) with mandatory attendance, as these integrative activities allow the student to acquire specific skills and competencies in a protected and simulated environment, preparing them for the clinical situations they will experience in the field.
Furthermore, the student must acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in the core disciplines scheduled for the third year (obstetric-gynecological care in emergency and urgent situations, surgical care for pathologies, organizational models of obstetric care, obstetric and gynecological sciences).

Teaching Methods

The student is required to attend internship activities during the periods and times scheduled by the Director of Professionalizing Educational Activities, for a total of 780 hours.
The student is guaranteed:

One-on-one support with an internship assistant during their work activities.

Supervision and orientation activities provided by the Director of Professionalizing Educational Activities and the Professional Education Tutor.

Assessment Methods
