Learning outcomes will be achieved through theoretical classroom lectures, with an emphasis on stimulating student interaction using active learning methodologies. Practical exercises and clinical simulations will be conducted at the affiliated hospital to allow students to apply the theoretical knowledge in a real-world clinical setting.
Contents
Pain: Pathophysiology of labor pain; definitions of acute, chronic, and incidental pain; somatic, visceral, and neuropathic pain.
Pharmacological analgesia for labor: Neuraxial blocks; systemic analgesia; inhalation analgesia.
Anesthesia: General and loco-regional anesthesia for cesarean section and obstetric procedures: drugs and techniques. Introduction to gynecological anesthesia.
Integrated protocols for the management of postpartum hemorrhage, eclamptic crisis, and cardiocirculatory arrest in pregnant and postpartum patients.
Practical skills: Setting up a sterile field; assisting with epidural placement; anesthetic preparation and assistance in urgent procedures; post-operative anesthetic care.
Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) and guidelines from international scientific societies (European Resuscitation Council, American Heart Association, American Society of Anesthesiologists, European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation, and Intensive Care – SIAARTI).
Vascular catheters: Different types and management in emergency and ward settings.
Terminal sedation: A multidisciplinary approach involving the anesthesiologist and other healthcare professionals.
