The aim of the course is enabling students to fully use the language as a tool in their future working environment, conferences, research etc.
Course Prerequisites
Students should have completed the English course in their first year and reached a valid CEFR B1 level.
Teaching Methods
Lessons are conducted by direct method in the classroom, translating medical texts and watching videos. Students will improve their comprehension through questions, simulations and exercises.
Assessment Methods
An End of Course exam consisting of a written Reading Comprehensi. The test will be carried out through tasks such as: question/answer, multiple-choice, “gap-filling” and dialogues.
Contents
The course focalizes on both general and specific medical vocabulary developed through reading of specific texts, listening and watching different multimedia content. The course includes: 1. Anatomical terminology. 2. Specific vocabulary concerning symptoms and pain. 3. Dialogues amongst midwives, doctors and patients 4. Asking patients about basic information 5. Asking patients about symptoms 6. Visiting patients 7. Reading medical texts 8. Giving explanations 9. Reading charts 10. Talking about medical exams 11. Talking about diagnosis 12. Treatments 15. Reading and translating medical texts from original professional papers/reviews
