Course Objectives

The course aims to provide a current overview of the museological and museographic debate on the basis of historical examples, with particular attention to the with special attention to the realities of the regional area and new technologies for the enhancement of cultural heritage

Course Prerequisites

A basic knowledge in art history is appreciated.

Teaching Methods

The course will be structured according to a multidisciplinary approach aimed at student involvement. Teaching methods will be face-to-face lectures with ppts, images and videos; classroom presentation and discussion of some examples of museum realities entrusted to active student analysis (flipped classroom); and also group project work directly in the field for which a presentation and final evaluation is planned.

Assessment Methods

The exam will consist of an evaluation of group or individual project work done in the field (oral examination) and a written questionnaire (5 multiple-choice answers plus 1 open-ended question).

Contents

The course is divided into three parts:
The first part (10 hours) consists of an introduction to the basic concepts of museology, with a focus on the different skills and professionalism involved in the reality of museums, both in a historical perspective and in a contemporary fruition framework (visual studies, mass media, digital humanities, 3D modelling).
The second part (10 hours) will examine, discuss and submit to analysis some significant examples of museum heritage enhancement, selected among those who can offer matter for reflection and consolidation of skills in the specific field, with the active participation of students.
The third part of the course (30 hours) consists of a series of visits and inspections to museums, sites of cultural interest, and cultural institutions in the area (Como and Lombardy), during which students will be asked to practice the previously acquired knowledge.
