Syllabus
Course Objectives
The German Language 1 course in Tourism Studies is aimed at acquiring and developing a solid foundational knowledge in reading, listening comprehension, writing, and speaking within the tourism sector. The primary goal of this course is to equip students with the ability to navigate common everyday situations, enhancing their sector-specific vocabulary and the communication strategies needed to facilitate dialogue with foreign clientele in various tourism contexts. A significant emphasis is placed on listening and comprehension in German to encourage conversation through the simulation of real-life daily situations (such as welcoming tourists, handling reservations, and offering specific services), thus improving spoken production by fostering the correct use of the acquired terminology and pronunciation accuracy. The course also provides an opportunity to deepen students' understanding of the culture and traditions of German-speaking countries, thereby offering tourism professionals greater opportunities for interaction with clients. Metodi didattici Il corso si svolge nel primo semestre per un totale di 35 ore di lezione frontale. Il corso prevede analisi ed esercitazioni di lessico, grammatica e fonetica tedesca, testi d’ascolto generali o mirati all’ambito turistico, esercizi di comprensione testuale con l’utilizzo della terminologia turistica, dialoghi aperti e giochi di ruolo, produzione di piccole relazioni o conversazioni scritte e consultazione di web-corpora e di risorse online utili a livello terminologico o per approfondimenti in materia. Schede di sintesi e materiali del corso, nonché ogni eventuale materiale aggiuntivo sarà settimanalmente caricato sulla piattaforma e-learning del corso. Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento La modalità di verifica dell’apprendimento consiste in due prove. Prima, una prova parziale scritta (comprensiva, a titolo esemplificativo e non esaustivo, di domande a risposta multipla, domande aperte/chiuse, vero/falso, brevi esercizi di morfologia, sintassi, traduzione e ricerca terminologica in ambito turistico) e, se superata la prova scritta, una successiva prova orale (che verte su argomenti esaminati durante il corso). Le prove sono entrambe obbligatorie, con attribuzione dei voti in trentesimi. Il voto finale dell’esame si ottiene mediante la media aritmetica dei voti sostenuti nelle due prove parziali. Verranno valutate in particolare la capacità terminologica acquisita per gestire le diverse situazioni turistiche esaminate durante il corso, la capacità e il livello di precisione espositiva, l’abilità nel comprendere le domande formulate da clienti, aziende e strutture turistiche del territorio e la capacità di fornire informazioni corrette dal punto di vista contenutistico, lessicale e grammaticale. Course Prerequisites
The course does not require any prerequisites and starts at a beginner level. Participation in any preliminary German course organized during the academic year by the DiDEC Department is strongly recommended.
Teaching Methods
The course takes place in the first semester for a total of 35 hours of frontal lessons. The course includes analysis and exercises of German vocabulary, grammar and phonetics, general listening texts, exercises of comprehension with the use of tourism terminology, open dialogues and role-playing games, production of small reports or written conversations and consultation of web-corpora and online resources useful for glossaries or for further information on the subject. Summary sheets and course materials, as well as any additional material will be uploaded weekly to the e-learning platform of the course.
Assessment Methods
The learning assessment method consists of two parts. Firstly, a written test (including, by way of example but not limited to, multiple choice questions, open / closed questions, true / false, short exercises in morphology, syntax, translation and terminology research in tourism) and, if passed, a subsequent oral test (which focuses on topics examined during the course). Both tests are mandatory, with the attribution of marks out of thirty. The final grade of the exam is given by the arithmetic average of the marks taken in the two partial tests. In particular, the terminological capacity acquired to manage the various tourist situations examined during the course, the ability and level of display precision, the ability to understand the questions formulated by customers, companies and tourist facilities in the area and the ability to provide correct information from a content, lexical and grammatical point of view.
