Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course leads the student to develop basic knowledge on the promotion and implementation of strategies for maintaining or achieving healthy lifestyles, through programs of structured motor activity in an outdoor environment. Furthermore, the course aims to provide the practical skills necessary for the planning and administration of structured outdoor physical activity programs with particular reference to orienteering and Nordic walking. The knowledge and skills gained in this teaching are the founding prerequisites for the professionalism of the Kinesiologists of Preventive and Adapted Motor Activities.

Course Prerequisites

No specific prerequisite.

Teaching Methods

Teaching takes place through:
• lectures in the classroom (12 hours) which aim to provide theoretical knowledge, with PowerPoint presentations, video, images.
• practical lessons in the gym and in outdoor environment (20 hours) which aim to provide skills for learning and creating practical proposals for physical and sport outdoor activities, with particular reference to orienteering and nordic walking.

Assessment Methods

The exam is divided into three parts: Parts A, B, and C.
Part A: Written test. Its objective is to assess knowledge of the scientific and educational principles underlying physical activity in an outdoor context. It consists of a written test with 11 multiple-choice questions. For each question, with three answer options, there is only one correct answer (two are incorrect). 1 point is awarded for each correct answer, 0 points for each incorrect answer.
Part B: Oral/practical test, dedicated to knowledge of the discipline and the application of orienteering teaching methods, 10 points.
Part C: Oral/practical test, dedicated to knowledge of the discipline and the application of orienteering teaching methods to Nordic Walking, 10 points.
The grade is expressed in thirtieths.

Parts B and C are both divided into two parts, each worth 5 points. The first part concerns the knowledge and demonstration of specific skills and concepts related to specific disciplines, and the second part concerns the application of teaching and methodological skills for learning specific disciplines.

The first, practical-oral part (C) concerns the discipline of Nordic Walking. Participants will be asked to demonstrate and explain Nordic Walking steps (total 5 points). The other 5 points will be awarded for a question related to a specific teaching proposal for learning Nordic Walking (assessing know-how and ability to have others do it, based on the "reflection-action" concept).
The evaluation criteria for the part concerning the knowledge and demonstration of specific skills consist of: quality of execution; relevance, knowledge, and awareness in the execution of the required skills, exercises, and concepts. With reference to Nordic Walking, particular consideration will be given to gross coordination, posture, pole handling, upper limb movement, and fluidity of hand movement.
The evaluation criteria for the section regarding the application of teaching and methodological skills to the learning of specific disciplines consist of: pertinent use of technical language and communication methods; pertinent use of anatomical, physiological, and mechanical principles applied to the exercises; adequate mastery and application of the progression criterion in the exercise proposal; and organization and demonstration in relation to specific objectives.
