The course in DIAGNOSTIC MEDICINE AND PHARMACOLOGY takes place in the first semester of the second year and includes the following courses: - DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING – 1 credit - INTERNAL MEDICINE – 2 credits - PHARMACOLOGY – 2 credits
The educational objectives of the course are to provide students with the pathophysiological foundations, symptomatology, and diagnosis of the main human diseases in the field of internal medicine. It also provides discussion of specific classes of drugs and their use in healthy subjects, adult patients, and pediatric patients, including in relation to specific pathologies covered in the Internal Medicine course. The course also provides students with basic knowledge of radiation protection and diagnostic imaging.
Course Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and general nursing (topics covered in the first year) is helpful for understanding the topics covered in the course. There are no mandatory prerequisites for this integrated course
Assessment Methods
The assessment consists of a written exam in diagnostic imaging, consisting of a multiple-choice test, and two oral exams in Internal Medicine and Pharmacology, during which students will be asked both broad and more specific questions regarding the topics covered in the three modules of the integrated course. The overall objective of the exam is to assess the degree to which the previously stated learning objectives have been achieved, assessing the student's level of knowledge and critical understanding of the topics covered and the ability to apply these to individual pathologies, pharmacological treatment, and diagnostic imaging protocols. In assessing the exam, instructors will also consider the student's ability to articulate their speech with clarity, precision, relevance, and command of language. Passing the exam is dependent on a positive result (minimum score of 18/30) in each of the three modules. Each exam session will be divided into three partial exams, and students will have the option of deferring registration for the three exams throughout the year. The final grade will be the average of the three partial tests, assuming all tests are satisfactory. The grade is expressed in thirtieths.
