The course is based on lectures, with the help of Powerpoint presentations with diagrams, images and videos. In addition to specific topics, material from international literature will be used. During the lessons the teacher will make frequent connections with the daily working reality to better understand what is presented. Students are required to attend classes as established in the academic regulations of the course of study and to sign the attendance sheet in order to take the exam. The teacher undertakes to make the presentations projected in lectures and other material of interest available through the computer platforms of the University (e.g. e-learning) to which students have access.

The course will address the following topics: • Safety and good laboratory practices • Personal protective equipment • Glassware and main laboratory tools • Safety data sheets and pictograms • Classification of biological agents • Collective Protection Devices Fume hoods: classification and operation Biohazard hoods: classification and operation • Bio-safety levels of a laboratory • Autoclaves and sterilization • Algorithms and flow charts
