Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course enables students to begin acquiring the fundamentals of general nursing care and to understand the role and responsibilities of the nursing professional.
In particular, the course aims to analyse the historical and evolutionary development of the nursing profession, the main theories developed at national and international level, as well as the methods and tools specific to the discipline.

Teaching Methods

Teaching is delivered through lectures supported by slides.
Active student participation is encouraged through guided discussion sessions.

Assessment Methods

The assessment consists of a written examination and an oral examination.
Students will be admitted to the oral examination only if they have passed the written examination with a minimum score of 18/30.
The written examination will consist of a multiple-choice test comprising 30 questions to be completed within 30 minutes. The written test will be marked immediately after its completion, and the oral examinations will follow.
During the oral examination, the lecturer will assess not only the students’ knowledge, but also their use of appropriate scientific terminology and their critical thinking skills in addressing the proposed topics.

1. Overview of the evolution of Nursing Science.
1.1 Nursing theory development in Italy and internationally.
1.2 The relevance of adopting scientific terminology in nursing care.
1.3 History and structure of the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) of the ICN.
2. The professionalization process of Italian nurses: interpretative frameworks and key historical and regulatory reference points.
3. Complexity theory and nursing care.
4. Methods and tools of nursing care.
5. Communication to ensure safety and nursing documentation.
