The course proposes to frame the general lines of syllabuses design with respect to the teaching of second and foreign languages, delving into various issues. It will also reflect on the concept of language minorities and the phenomena of language contact. In particular, with reference to the Dublin Descriptors, the objectives are specified as follows: Knowledge and understanding (acquisition and mastery of general and specific knowledge in the field of language sciences); Applying knowledge and understanding (ability to use knowledge and skills to analyze linguistic data and solve problems of a professional nature); Making judgments (ability to gather and interpret data relevant to formulating independent critical judgments, including broader reflections on social, scientific or ethical issues); Communication skills (ability to use the specialized language of language sciences to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialist and non-specialist audiences); Learning skills (development of the abilities necessary to continue learning independently or in a structured manner, through familiarity with a core body of authoritative sources).
Course Prerequisites
Excellent knowledge of Italian language and grammar. Knowledge of fundamentals of descriptive linguistics.
Teaching Methods
Lectures, case study analysis, project works, problem solving activities.
Assessment Methods
The final exam will be written and will concern course contents. Attending students could discuss a research and this will be 30% of the final grade. The written exam involves exercises of a technical nature and open-ended questions.
