Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (23/02/2026 - 12/06/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

the course aims to provide the student with the basic knowledge of industrial chemistry. the topics discussed will provide the means to understand the industrialization of chemical reactions, taking into account the fundamental aspects of process scale-up. At the end of the course, the student will be able to evaluate the possibility of developing a reaction even from the point of view of the chemical plant.

Course Prerequisites

In order to understand the topics discussed, mathematics, physics, physical-chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry and analytical chemistry are required.

Teaching Methods

the course will be delivered through frontal lessons (64 hours) and didactic workshops (24 hours)

Assessment Methods

the exam will be delivered in writing and oral. the written test consists of resolution of an exercise and is aimed at verifying the student's ability to run a material balance, to draw a process diagram, or to evaluate the size of a chemical reactor for a given reaction. the written test is considered to be overcome with the vote of 18/30. Those who pass the written test have access to the oral exam that is intended to evaluate the learning of all the topics discussed and above all to evaluate the student's autonomy in reformulating and finding interdisciplinary connections to the issues examined. The final vote will be the average of the votes (40% written; 60% oral).

Contents

The course includes both frontal lessons (8 credits) and lab (2 credits). frontal lessons will cover the following topics: - structure of the chemical industry - history of the chemical industry - Economic bases for process evaluations (6 hours) - chemical kinetics for homogeneous,The course includes both frontal lessons (8 credits) and lab (2 credits). frontal lessons will cover the following topics: - structure of the chemical industry - history of the chemical industry - Economic bases for process evaluations (6 hours) - chemical kinetics for homogeneous, heterogeneous and catalyzed by solids reactions.
