Abstract:
In the last decade, new technologies have found an increasingly wide use in the management of patients with respiratory diseases, especially in the area of COPD and asthma and in home ventilation patients, allowing to assess the health status, quality of life, compliance and treatment efficacy. The technological innovation that allows remote control of various clinical and physiologic parameters are changing our approach to chronic respiratory disease. This approach determines for the patient higher feedback with the health center and for the physician a better control of patient's health status with possible positive impact on healthcare costs. These technologies, using digital and computerized tools, allow a personalized care model. Most of the telemonitoring studies demonstrated good efficacy, safety, sustainability and flexibility; controversies remain on legal issues and the real impact on healthcare costs.
