FATAL LIVER COMPLICATIONS IN WOMEN TREATED WITH FLUTAMIDE

Flutamide is an oral antiandrogen: it has been licensed in Italy, the USA, the UK, and other countries for prostate cancer only. However, the drug is often prescribed for acne, hirsutism, and alopecia in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome. In the course of our work as forensic doctors investigating medical malpractice, one case of fulminating and lethal hepatitis in a woman treated with flutamide for acne and hirsutism was brought to our attention.
