Abstract:
This paper aims to provide new tools for a more reliable reading of some "Minoan" linguistic formulas readable in few Egyptian texts of the New Kingdom. The enhanced reliability of a "normalized" reading of such texts is obtained through the stabilization of standard vocalized readings of the Egyptian syllabic orthography applied to indoubted cases of Aegean toponymic material, with a phonetic revision of the values based on a network of systematic correspondences and not on the basis of comparisons between mere conventional transliterations, as was the case in previous analyses. This procedure, which implies the attempt to promptly justify the discrepancies (vowels, consonants), even minimal ones, between the forms object of comparison, guarantees a better reliability of the linguistic analysis processes and allows, for instance, to fix the degree of identifiability of possible theonymic units and even of morphological elements otherwise known from Linear A Minoan documents.
