Abstract:
Halal tourism has evolved from pilgrimage-centered practices to a dynamic global industry shaped by economic, cultural, and technological transformations. This chapter traces its development from the pre-2000s to the present, highlighting institutionalization, digitalization, and sustainability as key drivers. Particular attention is given to the role of Muslim-majority countries and the growing engagement of non-Muslim destinations in accommodating halal-friendly services. The analysis underscores the impact of middle-class expansion, Islamic finance, and digital platforms in shaping consumer behavior. Future prospects reveal diversification, inclusivity, and global expansion as defining features of halal tourism.
