abstract:
Formaldehyde is a chemical agent with peculiar toxicological properties; due to its diffusion in several industrial fields, its wide use in healthcare sector and its ubiquitous presence in general environments (as a product of materials’ emissions and/or photochemical reactions), formaldehyde constitutes a very common risk agent in the living and working environments. By Regulation (EU) 895/2014, formaldehyde has been classified as a category 1B carcinogen. This led to the need to consider carcinogenic risk management of the exposed worker. The Lombardy Region has provided guidelines for the management of occupational exposure risk to formaldehyde, with the aim of defining a correct framework for the problem and providing operational guidance to ensure a uniform approach in the territory. This guideline, therefore, proposes indications on the technical and organizational preventive interventions to be taken to risk assessment and management.
