DONATELLI MARCO

Marco Donatelli, born in Florence on March 12, 1977, obtained his Degree in Computer Science in 2002 from the University of Florence and his Ph.D. in “Mathematics and Statistics for Computational Sciences” in 2006 from the University of Milan. From 2005 to 2014, he was an Assistant Professor; from 2014 to 2023, an Associate Professor; and since 2023, a Full Professor of Numerical Analysis (MATH-05/A) at the University of Insubria.

He has taught both introductory and advanced courses in numerical analysis, inverse problems, and optimization for the Degree Program in Mathematics and for several Ph.D. programs. He is a member of the Ph.D. Board in “Computer Science and Computational Mathematics”, which he has coordinated since 2025.

His research interests include iterative methods and acceleration techniques based on preconditioning and multigrid strategies for both structured problems arising from the discretization of differential equations, including fractional ones, and the regularization of ill-posed inverse problems.

He has authored more than 120 publications, mainly in international journals, with more than 100 collaborators. He has supervised more than 10 Ph.D. theses and is currently supervising 4 Ph.D. students and one postdoctoral researcher. He serves on the Editorial Boards of AMC, NLAA, ETNA, and JCMDS.

He has coordinated several national research projects (PRIN and INdAM) and local projects (funded by the Lombardy Region) either as Principal Investigator or as local unit coordinator.

He has also contributed to the organization of more than a dozen international workshops and summer schools.
