GALLI SIMONA

Since 2014, leading the Structural chemistry of advanced materials (ChiMat) group Simona Galli has made extensive use of solid-state multi-technique approaches invariably involving (in situ) powder X-ray diffraction. To date, she has undertaken the crystallochemical characterization of about 100 microcrystalline advanced materials - metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, and, to a lesser extent, active pharmaceutical ingredients - actively contributing to rationalize their functional properties by disclosing crystal structure, phase transitions, framework flexibility, sorption-desorption processes, adsorption sites and host-guest interactions. Recently, she has focused her group activities on the applicative contexts of carbon capture and of sensing and sequestration of pollutants in waters. Since 2014, her group was joined by 39 BS or MS Thesis students, 5 Ph.D. students and 4 postdoctoral fellows. As per January 2026: 140 papers; 1 patent; 28 oral communications (of which 5 invited) at national and international conferences; 5 lectures at national or international schools; h-index: 45; 6,512 citations (5,230 without self-citations) (Scopus). Porous materials are the topic of her training and dissemination activities too: in the period 2019-2025 she co-directed the 1st-4th International School on Porous Materials. In addition to her research and teaching activities, she has served as Coordinator of the BS and MS in Chemistry of the Università degli Studi dell’Insubria (2019-2024), member of the Teaching Commission of the Italian Crystallographic Association (AIC) (2008-2010), treasurer of the AIC (2015-2020), co-chair of the special Interest Group of the ECA devoted to molecular interactions and recognition (SIG-07) (2018-2024), financial auditor of the European Crystallographic Association (ECA) (2022-present), member of the International Scientific Committee of the EuroMOF conferences (2023-present), chair of SIG-07 of the ECA (2024-present).
