Overview
I am an Associate Professor of theoretical astrophysics at the University of Insubria in Como, Italy. My main research interest is understanding the dynamics, star formation and evolution of galaxies, in particular our own, the Milky Way. My research uses a variety of tools, ranging from purely analytical calculations to massive numerical simulations on high-performance computing facilities. I am the PI of the ERC StG project "GalFlow" to study the inward transport of matter in the Galactic centre.

Description
Sono professore associato di astrofisica teorica all'Università dell'Insubria di Como. Ho conseguito nel 2012 una laurea magistrale in fisica teorica all'Università di Pisa e il diploma di licenza in fisica alla Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa sotto la guida del Prof. Giuseppe Bertin. Ho ottenuto un dottorato in astrofisica all'Università di Oxford nel 2016 sotto la guida dei proff. John Magorrian e James Binney con una tesi sulla dinamica del mezzo interstellare in galassie barrate. Nel periodo 2015-2016 ho lavorato per sei mesi come consulente manageriale nel settore finanziario per Bain & Company a Milano. Dal 2016 al 2023 sono stato ricercatore postdoc all'Istituto di Astrofisica Teorica dell'Università di Heidelberg (Germania). Nel 2023-2024 sono stato Lecturer e Royal Society University Research Fellow all'Università del Surrey (UK), dove ero PI di un progetto finanziato dalla Royal Society per studiare la struttura e la dinamica del nucleo Galattico del valore di circa 1 milione di sterline. Da aprile 2024 mi sono trasferito all'Università dell'Insubria dove sono PI del progetto ERC Starting Grant "GalFlow" e del suo potenziamento "3D-Gal", finanziati rispettivamente dall'Unione Europea per un valore totale di circa 1,5 milioni di euro e dalla Fondazione Cariplo per 300.000 euro, che hanno l'obiettivo di studiare il trasporto di materia verso il centro della nostra Galassia e la distrubuzione tridimensionale del mezzo interstellare nel centro Galattico.

Overview
Our research group studies the structure, dynamics and evolution of galaxies, in particular our own, the Milky Way. Our research is mainly theoretical. We create mathematical models and perform simulations on high-performance computing facilities, and then we compare them to observational data from modern telescopes including JWST, ALMA e VLT. We are apart of the Como Lake member for Astrophysics (CLAP - https://dsat.uninsubria.it/clap/).

ACES (the ALMA CMZ Exploration Survey)
- ACES is a Large Program ALMA survey of the Milky Way’s Central Molecular Zone (overall PI: Steve Longmore) that is observing all the dense (column density > 1022 cm≠2) gas in the CMZ in various molecular lines with ALMA at unprecedented resolution (1.5"≥0.05 pc at the Galactic centre). The collaboration has more than hundred members and is subdivided into four WP (WP1: Data; WP2: Fundamental Measurements; WP3: Chemistry & Physical modelling; WP4: Theory and Simulations).

PHANGS (Physics at High Angular Resolution in Nearby GalaxieS)
- The PHANGS collaboration aims to use high resolution observations of nearby galaxies with several telescope, including ALMA, Hubble, VLT, and JWST to understand the interplay of the small-scale physics of gas and star formation with galactic structure and galaxy evolution.
